The Worst Things Happen At Home

We think sailors our clearly wrong. The worst things don’t happen at sea, they happen at home. If you don’t believe this, just take a lot at some of the disasters that could happen in or to your home. We bet by the end of this list, you won’t be that worried about going out in the ocean anymore. Of course, it’s not particularly useful to note the problems if we don’t have the solutions. So, while we’re looking at some of the worst home disasters, we’ll also look at the best ways to fix them.

Flooding In The Home

There are multiple reasons why your home might flood. It could be due to a problem with the plumbing, or it might be a leaking pipe where the situation gradually gets worse. You might also find that it’s all to do with the weather. Bad weather can quickly leave your garden submerged and then set to work on your home. It might not seem like it, but water could creep through the walls of the basement causing it to flood. The issue here is usually low soil permeability. The water builds up on the ground and pushes against the foundation of the home. If you’re lucky, this will just lead to an issue with mould, but that can be a problem too. So, what’s the answer?

Well, if the damage is already done you definitely need to call in an expert restoration team. If you use something like the Servicemaster clean and restore solution, you’ll get two services for the price of one. They’ll fix the problem quickly and clean up any areas where the issue may have damaged your property. For instance, you might have soggy wet walls, and this could lead to mould. Interestingly, that’s the next home disaster on our list.

Mould Trouble

One of the reasons why you should call in an expert to deal with a flooding issue is due to mould. Mould on and around the home will occur if the area is left damp and it isn’t properly dried. You will usually see low levels of this in a bathroom that have poor levels of insulation. However, after an issue like flooding, you can tend to get black mould spreading through an area or a room of your home. Mould is dangerous because it can be toxic to young children, so it does need to be removed as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a job you’ll be able to complete yourself. While you can buy chemicals on the market to get rid of mould, it is best to use the services of a professional to make sure it’s properly taken care of. Otherwise, you can be left in a situation where the mould just returns and grows back. There are paint and wall covering available to prohibit the growth of mould on your walls.

Issues With The Roof

Roof damage usually occurs after a storm, and it is quite common to be left with a hole in your roof after a lightning storm. The problem here is that most owners will either be completely unaware of the hole or ignore it. They know that roof repairs are expensive and many will put this off as long as possible. The issue is that a repair job like this tends to snowball. The hole could increase in size. Or, you might find that the hole allows animals into your home. You might find that you have a family of birds before long living in your attic. If you want to avoid this, you need to make sure that you fill the hole right away. Although, first you need to make sure that you are aware of it. That’s why you should always arrange for a roof inspection after a big storm. This is the only way you will know for sure.

Break-Ins

Finally, we have reached a disaster that isn’t caused by natural elements. It can be terrifying to come home and discover someone has broken into your home. Losing valuable items and your finances is only a part of the issue, and hopefully, you were ensured. The deeper issue is feeling safe again in a place that you thought was secure. Luckily, these days there are plenty of high tech options for protecting your property and ensuring that it is as secure as it possibly can be. However, it can still be difficult to sleep there for the first couple of months after it happens, not knowing whether they might return.
